Summary

I am employed as a Senior scientist providing zoological support for the Scientific Authority of South Africa. AS part of my work I am responsible to monitor the legal and illegal trade in specimens of species listed as threatened or protected in terms of section 56 of the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act (NEMBA) of 2004), make and publish non-detriment findings on the impact of trade on the survival of species in the wild and advise on various aspects of the wildlife trade. I have a keen interest in the wildlife economy and specifically using a multidisciplinary approach the role sustainable use can play in the conservation of species.
